Summary

Cameroon, like other countries, is not spared from natural disasters. Despite the fact that prevention is one of the three civil protection measures enshrined in the law, it is worth noting the weakness of preventive actions in the face of disasters. In this book, which consists of five chapters, we first discuss the basic concepts and theoretical framework of disasters. The main risks of natural disasters as well as the major disasters that have struck Cameroon in recent years are then revisited before examining the national framework for disaster governance. An approach to implement population-based early warning is finally proposed, illustrated by a pilot example implemented in a municipality in the Far North Region. A number of texts governing the framework of civil protection in Cameroon enrich the book in the appendix.
